5 Badly-Needed Commandments by baybee-snayx 5 Badly-Needed Commandments by baybee-snayx
Here are 5 commandments that are conspicuously absent from Exodus. The text says nothing about prohibiting slavery, genocide, rape, blind faith, or intolerance. That's perplexing, as it's supposed to be the word of God. Oh wait, it's not perplexing at all because all of these things are whole-heartedly recommended by God soon afterwards!

**UPDATE** June 21st, 2012: I did this piece a few years back and, upon further thought and your own comments, I now realize that the Commandments should be made less vague.
#3 should say "Thou shalt not beat or otherwise torture thy fellow living creatures", and then another one should say "Thou shalt not keep fellow humans as property".
and #4 should say "Thou shalt tolerate others' personal opinions and beliefs".
Those combined with the other three are 6 excellent rules for being a good human being, and they are also contradicted in the Bible. So (once again) fuck the Bible.

"Thou shalt not kill" it cover genocide

Apparently not because God orders a genocide soon afterwards. "Thou shalt not kill" essentially meant "Thou shalt not kill illegally".

Well as much as I agree that these are good commandments to add, considering there is already the commandment "Thou shalt not kill" and said commandment is...well, conveniently ignored on a regular basis, even if these had been commandments I'm not sure what difference it would make.

Well Genocide is already murder, so that is a given. If that third one was true everyone is in trouble, with all the meat eating (yum), and bug and pest killing. ^^; All the other ones, yes, those are definitely needed.

I replace it that one with the golden rule :).

Is the same in every aspect, we are different and there are better and worse people for different reasons. You have to threat them as human beings but not as equals ( as least not in every single aspect ), they have to show they are equals to you.

I wasn't debating with you, I was trying to clarify what the image's 5th commandment meant. You were the one trying to debate.

Yes, I ask you to respect me as a fellow human being. Nothing more. I don't see that as a problem. However, since you clearly think yourself superior to me and others, I no longer respect you.

Indeed. Have a nice day.

You hinted at it at least three times, and the fact that you don't think you need to respect your fellow human beings for the simple fact that they are is indication enough.

What you don't seem to realize is that the word slavery in Hebrew is a VERY loose term. It could mean any kind of servant, paid or otherwise. For instance the type of slavery enacted by Pharaoah was condemned while the slavery of others was accepted. A good case of forced labor can be found in my local prison. Some are forced to work as a punishment and as a tool of correction. But to just bully people into doing your bidding is evil and was NEVER acceptable to God.

Genocide? Let's say someone is coming into your home to kill, rape and pillage and you get a gun and kill them in the act. That's a parent defending their turf, right? Well, let's take 185,000 Assyrians who want to capture and destroy Israel. They're God's children and His chosen people. All He did was what any parent would do, only it was 185,000 times bigger.

Rape is actually listed as a form of adultery and the man caught forcing a woman was to be stoned to death.

Blind faith? Hundreds of prophecies concerning Israel are shking the world right now. How can it be blind when it's clearly seen Joel 3:2?

The only thing God cannot tolerate is sin in it's many forms.

Have a nice day!

I wish you could realise how CORRUPT and DEPRAVED the whole world is! And keep in mind you're talking to an x US Army INF soldier. The truth is that most of the world isn't very civil, right now, is it? I can go find a dog who will lick his own testicals, throw up and lick it up, sniff people and other dogs butts, pee and lap it up, and yet they are FAR more civilized than some people.

And as far as the "God Hates Fags" guy is concerned, I think I prefer guys like Rev King Jr who opposed people like him anyways.

And as far as incessant babble is concerned I haven't said anything hurtful, but I will say this...

Jesus said the two biggest commandments are to love God with everything you have and to love others as you should love yourself. That's love 3 times in a single verse. If people would stop lying, stop murdering, stop coveting and stop committing adultery in it's many formes, or at least try to do so, how many atrocities could this world avoid?

Coveting? If people would stop trying to obtain what's not rightfully theirs by murder WWI and WWII would have NEVER been possible.

If adultery coupled with murder would cease we'd have 50,000,000 more people in America, and BTW, those people WERE our future leaders who will NEVER contribute to our struggling economy, never have a dream, never have an idea, all because of adultery, murder and coveting their own free time over another human life.

Why don't you MAKE me shut up by trying to debunk such logic?

What modern widely accepted philosophical approach endorsess murder? Is it Hume? News to me.... Russell.... no I think not. Systems like Objectivism, the most capitalistic I know of suggest a world where ones values are KEY to ones SELF ESTEEM. Thus nullifying acts of evil in any circumstance. Does this get bastard of course. But it is not said to the of a fictional figure, thus it is not dogmatically accepted. Thus it can be questioned and critiqued.... this horror the world over is due to THIS lack of questioning the quran and haddith.... adding or replacing more dogmatic behavior is NOT the answer.
Lets pretend that it is not dogma.... its source justified by evidence "it" is still enforcing or demanding violent acts done for no other reason than "it" wants it so.

What particular verse endorsed any kind of murder? Killing someone in an act of self defense is not murder. Killing someone as a means of justifiable homicide is NOT murder. Show me ONE VERSE where the Bible condones outright murder.

You can't. Everytime God ordered the stoning of someone or the death of anyone it was for the good of all around.

And the God of the Bible is NOT a fiction. Everyday the prophecies concerning Israel are coming to pass. When the Bible was completed it was 90% prophetic in nature. So far not a SINGLE prophecy has failed.

BYE NOW!

"I wish you could realise how CORRUPT and DEPRAVED the whole world is!"
Newsflash, G.I. Jackass: your religion and your army isn't gonna help change that.

All that talk of love is certainly correct, but it's so self-evident that we don't need "divine" laws backing it up

"I haven't said anything hurtful."
You condoned genocide.

"Show me ONE VERSE where the Bible condones outright murder."
How about several? Deuteronomy 7:16, 13:5-15, 17:2-12, 22:20-23 ; Leviticus 20:9-27. But according to you, there's nothing wrong with killing your own daughter if she says "Let's become Hindus!" It's self-defence! Or if she's raped in an alleyway, she should die because she didn't scream for help loud enough.

This is one of the many huge problems with religion: people are supposed to accept ANYTHING as unquestionably moral, as long as their God says so.

And YOU are the one who has twisted these verses around!

Deuteronomy 7:16 was not a case for murder. These people were villains who later on would attack and harass anyone around them, and God, knowing their hearts, had them killed because He knew what they would do. This is happening right now every day. The Palestinians are falsely claiming land that they have NEVER owned and are sending rockets to Israel regularly. They bomb orphanages and schools and then blame the Jews for everything. All God was doing was nipping it in the bud, but since the Jews rejected their Messiah, God in return has rejected them.

No one in their right mind would condone terrorism, right? Then they should know that all God was doing was protecting His children BEFORE the inevitable became reality. Yes. God was >RIGHT< for their destruction! And if every known terrorist organization was on an island and I had the chance to blow it up I >WOULD< bomb them with the good of the world in mind and wouldn't lose any sleep over it! So if, by genocide, you mean mass killings of such people, praise God and pass the gunpowder!

And as for Deuteronomy 13:5-15, same exact thing. In your mind your picturing innocent people dying, but the events of world history past present show that the elimination of such people was a good thing.

Get it in your head! Chapter 17 verse 12 of Deuteronomy says the purpose plainly!

TO PUT AWAY EVIL!

The God of the Bible isn't some cranky old man who leans up out of bed, cracks His knuckles and says "Gee, who can I zap today!" The icy flood of Noah was caused by God. Why? Genesis 6:5 He looked down and saw that the heart of man was wicked continually before Him, and sought only to do evil! Out loud and out front, man had become so corrupt that man became almost incapable of doing anything good.

Why don't we take guys like Charles Manson, Adolf Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot and Saddam Hussein and let them all move into YOUR HOUSE! Surely you'd approve because they were at least capable of doing SOMETHING GOOD! But awww...not these sweetie pies who COULDN'T!

LOL!

Now, what's this about a woman being raped???

Rape? Yeah like I said: Deuteronomy 22:23. Look it up.

Ok, so you would kill all the terrorists. Fair enough, I agree. But would you follow the Deuteronomy 20:16 model? Would you kill all the women? The children? The infants? Because that is what God says: "Don't leave alive anything that breathes".

So to summarize:

1) Does a girl who was raped and scared and didn't cry for help deserve to die?

2)Do infant children of violent Islamic radicals deserve to die?

Oh and 3)As for Deut. 13:5-15, the only thing that God thought was "wicked" about these people was that they converted to another religion ("Gods you have not known").
"In your mind your picturing innocent people dying, but the events of world history past present show that the elimination of such people was a good thing."
...What the fuck are you talking about?

Ahem, genocide could be a good thing, silly! Like Deuteronomy 6:5!

OH! The mass murder of so many! We should save them!............................ even though the heart of mankind had become so wicked they'd become INCAPABLE of doing anything good! We need to SAVE people who were WORSE than Timothy McVegue and Charles Manson! I mean, sure, it's absolutely FINE if one of our states lets 4-5 convicted murderers out (which happened recently), but surely we should let people who are so DEPRAVED that they are 'evil continually' go unpunished!

SURELY this will benefit mankind! >>
